The Benefits of GSM Service and
Roaming
The
invention of the GSM system really revolutionized the mobile communication
sector. Before the invention of the GSM,
the standard car phones and mobile cellular phones were keyed to a single
mobile number and thus that telephone would be used only with that pre
programmed number. As you can surmise,
this created a lot of problems and confusion.
Furthermore, when you were traveling, you would have to get a new number
in each state or if you were traveling internationally, you would have to get a
number from each country. Thus if you
had to visit 6 different places for a business visit, then you had to carry 5
or 6 mobile phones to take care of your communication needs.
However
with the advent of GSM, this concept changed completely with the usage of SIM
cards. SIM card is your personalized
number or your personal identification card to the mobile network. If you have a SIM card, you do not need to obtain
a phone for every new number or region. Instead you place your SIM card on your
phone and then that phone becomes your mobile phone with your own number. Thus
with the example above, if you are traveling to 5 or 6 different places or
countries; you would just need a single phone and you could just get 5 different
SIM cards. Thus wherever you travel, you
could hook up yourself with the appropriate SIM card f or that area and your
number will be active instantly as soon as you turn on your phone.
Of
course, with the new GSM roaming technology, carrying 5 or 6 different SIM
cards have become obsolete as well. Now
you can easily buy the best phone that you can with its accessories, charger
and Bluetooth and you can just buy a single SIM card with a single number. Then you will have to activate the roaming
function with your carrier and thus wherever you go or whatever country that
you travel to, your number will stay the same. With international roaming
activated, you will be able to receive calls and make calls with your same
phone number wherever you go. This is a
pretty neat feature as all you have to do will be to have a single number and
you will be online anywhere in the world.
Thus
GSM technology has progressed very far with mobile phones. Now you can use your phone accessories more
widespread, as your phone and your number can travel to anywhere in the world.
